FAQ

Can I succeed in woodworking if I'm a genius?

No. Woodworking is not difficult. You can create beautiful pieces of art by learning how to use simple power tools.

Which woods are good to use for furniture-making?

Woods are classified according their hardness. Softwoods can be pine, fir or cedar. Because they are resistant to rot, softwoods are often used as outdoor furniture. These hardwoods include maple, mahogany and teak. Because they are not weather-resistant, they are best used indoors.

What's the time taken to finish a piece furniture?

It depends on the size and condition of the furniture. Smaller projects like boxes and picture frames can be finished within one day. Larger projects like dining tables and desks require several days. It takes time in order to properly stain or seal the wood.

What kind tools do carpenters use to build?

A hammer is probably the most widely used tool for carpenters. The hammer is used to pound nails into wood. This helps to keep pieces together when they are working on a project. Other tools include clamps, pliers, screwdrivers, measuring tape, pencils, saws, drills, and wrenches.

How To

How to make wooden joints

This tutorial will demonstrate how to join two pieces together of wood. We will use the pocket hole joint, which is drilling holes in the wood to join them. This method works great if your wood is straight and smooth. Dowel joinery might be a better option if your wood is not straight or flat. Here are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. First, measure the area where you wish to place the pocket joint. Next, drill 3/4 inch holes in each end of each piece using a handheld drilling machine or jigsaw.
  2. Sand Smooth. You can sand the edges of the wood to ensure that it doesn't split.
  3. Glue both sides together. Apply glue to both the ends of the wood. Allow it to sit for approximately 5 minutes before you clamp the pieces together.
  4. Clamp the Pieces Together. After the glue has dried thoroughly, secure the pieces so that they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. Trim the excess wood around the joint after the glue has dried completely.

To be able to turn the pieces inside-out, leave enough room between them.
